Sandra L. Alagona’s book talks about women’s
social roles and marriages in eighteenth century and explore the reasons. Jane
Austen and Margaret Fuller express their thoughts about the revolution of
women’s status in their books, which enlightens many other women writers in
that time. Alagona’s books offer many cases in women’s social roles and
marriages. Alagona also introduces Jane Austen and Margaret Fuller. These cases
make the book much easier to follow. The case about women’s marriages shows the
reality at that time. This case is indispensable because of its honest
perspective. The purpose of my research paper is to explore the reasons of the
manipulation in marriages. This case is very useful for me to know the reason
and shows me a real picture about the marriages in that time.

This excellent book talks about the hypothesis
of mating strategies that can be identified in the female characters in Jane
Austen’s novel Pride and Prejudice. Some
people who choose the short-run relationship consider more about the benefits
they can get from the marriages. However, people who choose the long-run
relationship choose the true love. This book analyzes different kinds of
relationship to prove their hypothesis that is mating strategies. This test is
very useful because of its honest perspective. The mating strategies have the
similar goal as manipulation. Both of them are used in marriages to pursue some
benefits. Therefore, the test is very useful to me. My purpose is to analyze the
game theory in marriage in Pride and Prejudice,
so mating strategies can enlighten me. The mating strategies can also be used
with other resources to benefit my research.
